Located at the end of a cul-de-sac in Emigration Oaks subdivision above  Salt Lake City is this modern style home, sitting on 4.82 acres with unobstructed views of mountains up and down the canyon. Designed by local commercial architect Brian Junge, the home is a blend of mid-century modern and contemporary architecture.

The exterior of the home is clad with architectural honed CMU block on the lower portions and Swisspearl,  (http://www.swisspearl.com/about-swisspearlR/) maintenance free panels on the upper sections. When the rain comes pouring down upon the membrane roof, it does not go to waste as it is harvested in a rainwater collection system for later use in landscape watering.

Built in 2008 the home has 4225 square feet of modern tranquility (2275 up and 1950 down), containing 4 bedrooms, 3 1/4 baths, a 3 car garage, gourmet kitchen, gas fire pit, hot tub, 2 patios, 2 decks, and more privacy to enjoy all of this than you can find just about anywhere.

One of the primary objectives of the home was to incorporate a home that was not too big, nor too small. Basically just what you need, and not what you don’t.

This environmentally sustainable home is designed and oriented for passive solar gain, obtaining heat in the winter from the sun’s low angle, absorbing that heat into the polished concrete floors, and letting the heat from the floors slowly dissipate throughout the night when the sun is down to keep the home warm. This results in enormous energy savings when combined with the ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) construction with it’s high R-value. The house also boasts large overhangs for shading that summer sun, adding architectural intrigue, and keeping the house cool in the summer.

The interior of the home has a quality feel to it as it is appointed with custom glass and porcelain tile finishes throughout the kitchen and baths, a warm bamboo clad feature wall that slices into and throughout the home from the front porch.  Polished concrete floors and travertine on the main floor and lower levels, and aluminum clad, double pane wood windows for energy efficiency, and low maintenance.

The heart of the home is the great room, consisting of the gourmet professionally equipped kitchen, dining area and living room with unobstructed commanding views of the mountains across, up and down the canyon. A direct vent gas fireplace surrounded by the 24 foot concrete mantle and built-in bookshelves,  is the centerpiece of the living room.

A large patio on the west side facing down the canyon with a gas fire pit and natural gas barbecue supply, and a patio on the east at the front entry to the home with a planter box and built-in concrete bench. The 2 decks include a large deck off the master suite and a long deck spanning the dining and living room.

The master suite has a large custom bathroom with his and hers sinks, dual shower heads with separate controls, a steam shower with bench, cast iron soaking tub and a european bidet. The large walk-in closet leaves plenty of room for your hanging and folded clothes as well as other linens and has a built-in ironing board. The retreat and sleeping areas welcome you with stunning views of the mountains surrounding the home, floor to ceiling sliding glass doors to a large private deck, a wall mounted LCD HDTV and desk area for those home office tasks.
